Design and Display

Galaxy Tab A8 features a 10.5-inch display, compared to the 10.4-inch screen on last year’s Tab A7. The aspect ratio is now 16:10, which offers more vertical space for contents. It still uses a TFT LCD panel and there are considerable bezels around the screen.

Tab A8 comes in a familiar metallic body with a circular cutout for the single 8MP camera at the back. Samsung offers this tablet in four colors: Gray, Silver, Pink, and Gold. However, not all color options will be available everywhere.

Performance and Memory

Running the show underneath is a new octa-core chipset with a maximum clock speed of up to 2.0GHz. Samsung has not revealed the exact chipset used, but we know that it’s Unisoc T618 (12nm).

It features two Cortex-A75 (2.0GHz) and six Cortex-A55 (2.0GHz) CPU cores, while the graphics are handled with Mali G52 MP2. With this, the Tab A8 is said to offer 10% better CPU and GPU performance than its immediate predecessor.

As for storage, users can choose between 3GB and 4GB RAM. For the first time in this lineup’s history, Samsung has introduced a 128GB storage variant as well. The company will continue selling the 32GB and 64GB variants as well. You also have the option to expand the storage further with an external microSD card.

Camera

Moving on, Tab A8’s camera setup looks untouched from last year, except for the new circular camera island at the back. It houses the same 8MP camera with autofocus. Over on the front, there is a 5MP selfie camera on the right frame (or top frame depending on the orientation).

Rest of the specs

Fueling the Tab A8 is a 7,040mAh battery with support for 15W charging. You will have to buy a charger separately if you want to make the most out of it as Samsung only ships a 7.7W charger in the box.

Moving on to the audio side of things, Tab A8 has a quad-speaker setup with Dolby Atmos support. The tablet is available in Wi-Fi-only and LTE variants.
